    Job Title: Sports Camp Lead Counselor Pay Grade: 4

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt-Seasonal Pay Range: $13.34-$16.67-$20.01

    Reports to: Recreation Coordinator Revision Date: 3.10.2026

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Builds members and the community's understanding of the YMCA's impact.

    This position provides direct supervision and leadership to a group of youth and leadership and staff in a seasonal sports camp setting. Provides positive engagement with youth in a safe, nurturing environment. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying Y's commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responding to all member and community inquiries promptly.
    2. Leads energizing, fun, culturally aware, safe, and camp activities, and field trips, as directed by the Recreation Coordinator to carry out the YMCA mission and goals.
    3. Provide direct supervision and instruction to Sports camp participants following camp guidelines.
    4. Provides safe transportation with the YMCA Bus to and from all field trips.
    5. Assists with planning and setting up lesson plans and structure of camp.
    6. Convey schedule information.
    7. Follow all YMCA emergency and safety procedures. Reports problems, complaints, or concerns of participants promptly. Complete incident and accident reports as needed and send them promptly to Recreation Coordinator. Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct.
    8. Participates in staff meetings, training, events, reviews, and other scheduled events.
    9. Maintains attendance records in an orderly and efficient manner.
    10. Be self-motivated and able to work independently or as a team member.
    11. Be punctual and dependable. Wear YMCA staff shirt or name tag always.
    12. Fulfills any functions appointed by the YMCA administration.


    Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. At least 18 years of age
    2. You must pass a background check.
    3. Must pass a motor vehicle check (if required to drive and must be 21+)
    4. Experience working with school age youth and/or teens, preferably in a day camp setting.
    5. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: Sports/PE/recreational games. A love for the outdoors.
    6. Ability to coach and instruct children.
    7. Behavioral management skills
    8. Ability to actively implement outdoor sports program activities on and offsite.
    9. Effective verbal communication skills
    10. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse Prevention training with the first 30 days of hire.
    11. Completed health form prior to start date. (if required)


    Compensation details: 13.34-20.01 Hourly Wage
