    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Marin County Probation Department has a current need for a fixed-temporary position to support preparation and execution of the Probation Department’s summer internship program, Career Explorers, hosted from June 15, 2026 - August 7, 2026. Under general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the student intern helps ensure that program participants have a positive, safe, and enriching experience while gaining exposure to workplace skills, career exploration, and professional development. The intern will work closely with program staff, community partners, and program participants (ages 15-21 years old). Concurrently, the intern will work directly with youth program participants, with support and guidance from the Program Coordinator, for the duration of the summer program; will perform a variety of duties such as basic office tasks, data tracking, produce written notes, provide administrative and logistical support, and other duties as assigned.

    ABOUT YOU

    Student intern positions are distinguished from all other regular County classifications in that they are considered at-will, short-term and non-continuous. County internships augment and support, rather than replace, duties of regular employees. **This is a fixed short-term position to support the Probation Department’s summer internship program. This position is from May 26, 2026 - August 14, 2026. Hours vary from 25 hours - 40 hours a week as needed.

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    • Standard office practices include filing systems, and the operation of standard office equipment.
    • Standard office applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems.

    ABILITY TO:
    • Navigate conversations with young people to facilitate productive participation in the program.
    • Be punctual to support program needs and execution

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
    • Learn policies and procedures related to department and programming.
    • Communicate effectively with program staff and transitional-age youth participants (ages 15-21 years old).
    • Assist with daily operations of the Career Explorer Program.
    • Use database, spreadsheet, word processing, publishing and/or software applications depending on task assignment.
    • Work independently with 20-30 youth participants to ensure positive experience; aid as needed.
    • Maintain and organize program records, files, and documentation.
    • Support a positive learning environment during orientation and throughout internship process
    • Prepare program materials.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to youth participants as directed regarding participation in the program.
    • Support evaluation efforts including surveys, feedback collection, and reporting.

    The Minimum Qualifications:
    • Enrolled in an academic or vocational curriculum at a college or university, or
    • Within one year of having graduated college
    • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office programs
