    Minimum Qualifications
    Substation Electrician I:
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in a related electric utility field.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License ( CDL ) or ability to acquire license and/or endorsements within 120 days of employment.
    • Produce and maintain an acceptable driving record.


    Substation Electrician II
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience in a related electric utility field.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License or ability to acquire license and/or endorsements within 120 days of employment.
    • Produce and maintain an acceptable driving record.

    Position Summary:
    This position may be filled at either a Substation Electrician II or III level.

    This position will be a part of the Substation Maintenance group and will report to the Substation Maintenance Supervisor. This position will be working in high voltage substations ranging from 69kV - 345kV. This position will safely assist in the installation, modification, and repairs of Austin Energy’s high voltage substations. This position will be available for scheduled, unscheduled, and call back work. This position will be available for rotational on-call stand by and follow all safety procedures and policies.


    SALARY RANGES :
    Substation Electrician I -
    $25.74 - $30.50

    Substation Electrician II - $32.23 - $40.29

    Note:
    Top Candidates will need to complete both a written and field level test at the experience level they are hired in at, before their 6 month probation period ends. Failure to pass the test will result in termination

    Commercial Driver’s License:

    This position requires a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License or the ability to acquire one within 90 days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    Job offer may be contingent on passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test and thereafter, comply with Department of Transportation, Federal Regulations and the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing rules as outlined by the City of Austin Drug and Alcohol Policy for Drivers of Commercial Motor Vehicles.

    Work Schedule:
    • This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin.
    • Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends and may include on-call shifts.
    • Shifts may change according to departmental needs.
    • Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.
