    JOB SUMMARY:

    Ensure well-maintained, safe and attractive open lands, natural areas, trails, underpasses, and trailheads to maximize user enjoyment and to protect the environment. Performs trail and open lands maintenance and repairs, weed and vegetation management, restorations, stewardship projects, and construction projects.

    The salary range for this position is $22.77- $30.74 per hour with a hiring range of $22.77 - $26.76, depending on qualifications and experience.

    Position will close to applicants on: Monday, 4/28/25 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

    ESSETNIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Ensure safe, attractive, well-maintained and accessible trails and open lands by conducting inspection, maintenance and repair procedures.
    • Perform field operations including mowing, trimming, seeding, cultivating, planting, pruning, removing, inspecting, snow removal and weed control.
    • Safely operates heavy and light duty equipment to include tractors, mowers, seed drills, water trailers, weed whips, chainsaws, dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, trailers, ATVs, UTVs, skid steers, chippers, chemical sprayers, and various hand and power tools.
    • Assure resources based on proper planning, organizing and scheduling of maintenance and repair tasks.
    • Ensure the most efficient and effective use of time and resources by planning and scheduling own work and work for part-time employees.
    • Perform various maintenance tasks
    • Control noxious and other invasive weeds utilizing herbicides, pesticides, mowing, clipping and pulling using prescribed guidelines; maintains usage records.
    • Perform site-specific maintenance, restoration, and habitat improvement projects.
    • Install and maintain fences, benches, kiosks, pavilions, trash receptacles, signs, parking areas, and trailheads.
    • Perform vandalism and graffiti removal as well as trash and debris collection.
    • Lead volunteers and community groups on open land and trails projects.
    • Communicate information for internal documenting and for reporting and planning by maintaining, monitoring and updating complete records of recreational trails maintenance activities.

    OHTER JOB FUNCTIONS:
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required Education:
    • Associate Degree in Natural Resources, Park Maintenance or related field.

    Preferred education:
    • Degree or training in Natural Resources Management, weed management and native vegetation.

    Required Experience:
    • Two (2) years experience in natural resources, park maintenance or closely related field including operating various types of equipment.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Trail and open lands maintenance experience is highly desirable.

    An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for education requirement on a year for year basis.

    Certifications:
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.
    • Colorado Department of Agriculture Certified Operator (CO) or Qualified Supervisor (QS) license, or ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire date.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
    • Ability to identify, diagnose vegetation and disease problems and implement appropriate corrective action.
    • Determine work needed throughout facility grounds and inspect work results.
    • Knowledge of herbicides, pesticides and proper application procedures.
    • Knowledge of horticulture, plant identification, basic tree care, planting techniques, proper pruning procedures and basic landscape design.
    • Ability to interpret landscape plans and blue prints preferred.
    • Experience and Understanding a of mapping software programs preferred.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
    • Frequent light moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
    • Frequent strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
    • Frequent exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
    • Occasional exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
    • Occasional exposure to marginal to moderate conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
