    POSITION OVERVIEW :
    The purpose of the position is to maintain and enhance the databases we use to process and store discrete and time-series data for environmental quality. This position requires someone with environmental science understanding, broad technical expertise and a desire to understand and learn skills related to database operations and IT applications. Candidate must be comfortable working creatively through data problems and with teammates to learn new systems with the end goal of supporting our environmental scientists and data modelers.

    This position leverages a candidate’s understanding of databases - tables, joins, primary and foreign keys - and a willingness to learn to execute existing workflows and to adapt, develop and implement improved workflows and code to support a variety of database systems.

    In this position the selected candidate will work with a diverse team of technical and scientific professionals from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. The position requires performing in-the-field and desk audits of the tools we provide to monitoring staff in order to ensure that any challenges are appropriately elevated and addressed.

    Primary databases are a custom Oracle 19c Oracle Application Express database and Kisters’ Hydstra v14. In addition to these storage systems we utilize temporary systems including MySQL, Postgres and MS SQL Server Express to facilitate the collection of data from remote third-party systems. Duties include:
    * programming bug identification and solution implementation
    * identifying requirements for new views and/or tools to solve emergent problems and facilitate collaboration
    * assist business units in specifying appropriate data structures to store new types of data
    * assist in the creation of clearly written documentation that can be used to keep systems functioning properly.

    Pay Range
    $37.63 - $47.98
    Hours
    Monday - Friday, with the ability for a 50% telework schedule per week after initial training period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.

    May require working outside of normal business hours, including emergency events, evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by business needs.

    • This position requires broad experience with Oracle Database (19c), Postgres, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server including the development of custom schemae, tables, views, materialized views, triggers, sequences, scheduled batch jobs in each of these different systems and managing the synchronization of dev, test and production instances.
    • The ability to understand and extend code written in PL/ SQL , PHP , Powershell, Python, R and Javascript and effectively use related tools including Oracle SQL Developer, R-Studio, pgAdmin, phpMyAdmin.
    • The ability to accompany field crews for various data collection excursions and develop/enhance an understanding of the implicit requirements for the data collection and storage tools that we develop and support.
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Creates databases and database objects, such as tables, indexes, views, triggers, and stored procedures. Loads databases, reorganizes as necessary, and assists in monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving operational and performance-related database issues. Executes the procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures. Configures and implements database network connectivity working with the required technical teams. Ensures data integrity and data security. Maintains data standards, prepares, and develops database documentation, procedures, and definitions for data dictionaries. Creates test database environment for applications section, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures. Assists with the installation of database software and with analyzing, designing, and implementing databases. Assists with designing and maintaining database structures. Assists in developing and implementing standards.

    City Government
