Department of Risk Management is recruiting for a
Deputy Director who is responsible for assisting the Director of Risk Management with the overall planning and management of the operations of San Bernardino County’s Risk Management Department to achieve the department’s mission of providing loss prevention and control programs, insurance, environmental, and claims management services to San Bernardino County departments, districts, and trust members to reduce or eliminate losses. The Deputy Director provides significant input and guidance to the Director, influencing executive decisions that direct the operations of the department and has responsibility for directing the management of operational/technical functions. The Deputy Director performs advanced legal work in the area of risk and claim liability management and has oversight of comprehensive insurance programs, claims adjusting, and resolution activities.
The Deputy Director may oversee insurance procurement, budget preparation and fiscal administration, as well as multiple programs such as Self Insured, Self-Administered Liability, Workers' Compensation, Safety and Risk Control, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs.

A hybrid telework schedule may be offered upon satisfactory work performance. Some departments may also offer a 9/80 schedule, where incumbents enjoy a nine-day biweekly schedule. Travel : Statewide and nationwide travel is occasionally required at employer's expense. Travel throughout the County is required and employees are required to make provision for transportation. Mileage reimbursement may be available at current IRS rates.

Minimum RequirementsCandidates must meet all of the following requirements:EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution* in Business/Public Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a closely related field.
-AND- EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in risk management, managing third party administration, or insurance. Experience must include two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility. Experience may be concurrent.
*Note: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate for this position will have experience in a self-insured environment and completion of an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Associate in Risk Management for Public Entities (ARM-P).
