DescriptionThe Financial Support Specialist I performs highly responsible administrative and technical duties to support the activities of the department.
Examples of DutiesAnswers telephone and greet visitors; provides information or refers inquiries to appropriate personnel; routes incoming calls and records messages; responds to emails and faxes as necessary.
Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various word processing and file maintenance programs to enter, store, and/or retrieve information; maintains pertinent files and records; scans and copies documents as necessary; ensures files are complete and accurate.
Processes ingoing and outgoing mail, including preparing photocopies and collating materials; distributes mail to appropriate department or employee.
Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Receive invoices for goods and services provided to other county departments.
Assimilate invoices with purchase orders, receiving records, requisitions, and other supporting documents.
Review documents received for completeness, accuracy and clarity to insure that invoiced items match with requisitions, receiving records, and purchase orders.
Assess requests for payment to insure compliance with applicable laws regarding county finances, county policies and budgetary limits and approve those invoices that meet compliance requirements
Monitors budgets to insure availability of funds.
Checks for proper authorization of purchases.Assures compliance with approved bids and contracts for goods and services.
Performs other related duties as required.
Schedules approved invoices for payment to insure compliance with Prompt Payment Act.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED and minimum one year of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Family Medical Leave:Denton Countyemployees who have been employed for one year and who have worked 1250 hours in the preceding year may be eligible for up to twelve weeks of FMLA leave.
The FMLA provides for up to 12 weeks of job-protected leave
- for the birth, adoption, or placement of a child for foster care
- to care for a child, spouse, or parent with a serious health condition
- for an employee with a serious health condition
Employees who will be away from work for one of these reasons should contact Human Resources for additional information. When possible, an employee should provide at least 30 days advance notice. In the case of an emergency, notification should be made as soon as possible.
