ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Clark County Department of Finance is seeking qualified candidates to join our team as a Payroll Technician, located within the Comptroller's Office. The Comptroller's Office is the central coordinating financial agency of Clark County, responsible for both external and internal financial reporting as well as the processing and maintenance of all official accounting records. This position is responsible for performing complex, technical, and/or specialized financial office work relating to payroll report processing, employee hours, retirement benefits, and/or other compensation reporting in accordance with County policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. Further, this position works as part of a team and requires the use of independent judgment and initiative. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions in the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time general clerical experience, two (2) years of which include accounting or financial experience. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application.

Working Conditions: Specified positions may require working evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Enters and retrieves data from a computer system and produces reports; operates standard office equipment.
- Uses a computer to develop and manage databases and/or spreadsheet files and to develop special report formats.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Performs a variety of general office support work such as organizing and maintaining various files, typing correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents, and proofreading and checking materials for accuracy, completeness and compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
- Works with strict, recurring deadlines.
- References multiple applicable laws and contracts.
Timekeeping: - Performs payroll processing utilizing KRONOS or other automated time entry systems.
- Responsible for ensuring employee hours are compensated in accordance with County policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Researches and responds to inquiries regarding employee time and pay.
- Analyzes payroll/timekeeping data to generate employment reports.
- Works with Worker's Compensation and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) as it relates to employee payroll and leave time.
- Assists with payroll processing and retirement benefit reporting.
- Coordinates with department liaisons, Records and Human Resources personnel in the performance and completion of daily workload.
Records:
- Creates filing systems and maintains records and files.
- Answers inquiries from County employees and others regarding employment files and responds to records requests.
- Assists with auditing data entry to ensure compliance with County policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Processes employee status changes in the payroll system.
- Assists the new hire onboarding team with new hire processing.
- May assist Comptroller staff by performing clerical and public contact duties when necessary.
- Coordinates with department liaisons, Payroll, Timekeeping and Human Resources personnel in the performance and completion of daily workload.
