VCMC is a fully integrated, comprehensive system of hospital, clinic and specialty services. One of those specialty services is the Cancer Program, where our multidisciplinary team is here to help coordinate all aspects of your cancer care from diagnosis through treatment. Through a multidisciplinary approach we ensure that our patients receive access to the best care possible.

    THE POSITION: Under general direction and following established medically-approved policies and procedures, the Cancer Program Coordinator will assist patients in accessing a variety of cancer-related services including providing referrals to resources in the community, obtaining transportation, support groups, nutritional counseling, special rehabilitative services, and personal care items.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will have a registered nurse license and be passionate about supporting vulnerable populations. They should have a strong background in healthcare navigation and/or patient advocacy to guide cancer patients through their treatment journey. They will have strong communication and active listening abilities, effectively engaging with individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. In addition, they should have familiarity with local resources and community service organizations that provide services to cancer patients.

    PAYROLL TITLE: Senior Registered Nurse - Hospital

    WHAT WE OFFER:
    The County of Ventura offers an attractive compensation and benefits package that includes:
    • Educational Incentive: Incumbents may be eligible for an educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree.
    • Bilingual Incentive: Incumbents may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill $0.69 per hour (Level I), $1.00 per hour (Level II), $1.32 per hour (Level III).
    • Certification Pay: $0.813 per hour based on scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification up to a maximum of five (5) certifications.
    • Evening Shift Differential: 7.5%
    • Night Shift Differential: 15%
    • Weekend Shift Differential: $2.00 per hour
    • Standby Premium Pay: 1/4 of regular hourly wage or Federal minimum wage (whichever is greater)
    • Continuous County Service Incentive Pay: 1% for 7 years, 1.25% for 12 years and 1.5% for 17 years of continuous County service.
    • Health Benefits: You are afforded a biweekly flexible credit allowance for purchasing medical, dental, and/or vision insurance from authorized plans.
    • Deferred Compensation: Eligible to participate in the County's 401(K) Shared Savings Plan and/or the Section 457 Plan. If you participate in the County sponsored 401(K) plan, the County will match a part of your contribution up to 2% of your salary, on a per pay period basis.
    • Pension Plan: Participate in the County's defined benefits pension plan that provides lifetime payments to retirees. Members are "vested" after attaining five years of retirement service credit. If eligible, you may establish reciprocity with other public retirement systems such as CalPERS.
    • Holidays: 12 paid days per year which includes a scheduled floating holiday.

    AGENCY/DEPARTMENT:
    Health Care Agency - Ventura County Medical Center

    Senior Registered Nurse-Hospital is represented by the California Nurses' Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation. Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA memorandum of agreement.

    The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future (including Temporary and Fixed-Term), Intermittent, and Extra-Help vacancies for this position only. There is currently one (1) Regular vacancy.

    TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties include but are not limited to the following:

    • Implements nursing processes (assessment, planning, implementation of care plan, evaluation of patient response); revises plans as needed;
    • Administers basic and advanced competency nursing care in accordance with VCMC/SPH policies and procedures and Patient Bill of Rights;
    • Provides direction to others regarding complex health and patient problems;
    • Provides patient and staff education including the coordination of educational programs;
    • Participates in hospital and/or nursing administration care committee;
    • Reviews, identifies, reports, and corrects deficiencies in practices, products, or equipment as necessary;
    • Develops, implements and documents performance improvement processes;
    • Recognizes problem situations and takes appropriate steps leading to correction;
    • Coordinates patient care conferences;
    • Serves as a preceptor for new graduates, re-entry nurses, etc.; and
    • Performs other related duties as required.


    Typical Qualifications

    These are the entrance requirements to the examination process and ensure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, and, EXPERIENCE:
    Requires two (2) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience including two (2) years of full-time experience in Oncology, Cancer Program, or Cancer Registry.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California.
    • Must have a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment and maintain it thereafter.

    DESIRED:
    • Chemotherapy-Immunotherapy Certification (ONS)
    • Oncology Certified Nurse (ONC/ONCC)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
    Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • the principles, practices, and techniques used in advanced nursing care of specialized units.

    Working knowledge of:
    • performance improvement processes;
    • hospital based/nursing committee practices; and
    • patient and staff education methods.

    Working ability to:
    • provide direction to others;
    • self-direct continuing education needs;
    • provide a positive role model and public image;
    • work proficiently in emergency and/or stressful situations;
    • maintain confidentiality of patient/client information;
    • effectively establish and maintain working relationships with medical staff, co-workers, patients and the public; and
    • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
